Promoting literacy at Academy of Tucson

Jennifer Sandberg at Academy of Tucson changed positions as a teacher and suddenly needed a classroom library of picture books to promote social emotional learning, and to develop understanding literary terms (plot, setting, protagonist, etc.). She heard about Rotary LOCAL from one of the Rincon Rotary Club members, applied for a grant, and we partnered with local bookstore Mostly Books to get her wishlist fulfilled.

The Rincon Rotary's support is part of its Rotary LOCAL program, whose mission is to help improve the local community through educational outreach. Rotary LOCAL can provide manpower, resources from local business partners, or in some cases, direct financial support to teachers who apply for assistance. Rotary LOCAL is funded in part by our annual Taste of Chocolate event, a great way to sample local sweets and help teachers at the same time.
